Several factors are responsible for the decline of the $101.5 billion horse industry, creating an enitirely new market. The industry has taken substantial hits recently creating a crisis of unwanted horses nationwide. In order for the fragmented industry to survive these challenges and regain its footing the industry will have to come together to make changes in everything from breeding, training, marketing and owner education. Veterinary practices will also have to cater to the changing industry and new horse owners.

FEI World Equestrian Games |
|
| |
The 2010 World Equestrian Games, held at the Kentucky Horse Park will represent the largest equine sporting event ever held in the United States. The venue will host more than 900 competitors and their 1,300 horses from 58 countries, requiring the largest single importation of horses into the US since World War II. The Games will showcase the US horse industry hopefully creating new opportunities for the declining industry.
